About the Asset

This investment opportunity supports a pioneering 10,000-hectare native Afforestation, Reforestation, and Restoration (ARR) project in the Ucayali region of Peru, led by Bosques Amazónicos (BAM). The project is designed to generate approximately 5 million Verified Carbon Units (VCUs) over a 40-year crediting period, combining early revenue from carbon credits with long-term income from sustainable timber production. The initiative utilizes a diverse mix of premium native Amazonian tree species—including Shihuahuaco, Marupa, Huayruro, Caoba, and Capirona—to restore degraded lands and generate high-quality, nature-based carbon credits under Verra’s enhanced VM0047 methodology.

The project area consists of severely degraded farmland where natural regeneration is highly unlikely. The intervention addresses both climate and biodiversity objectives, while aligning with Peru’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs). In addition to restoring ecosystem services and establishing wildlife corridors, the project provides significant local employment, implements benefit-sharing mechanisms, and enhances community resilience. Revenue is de-risked through dual income streams—carbon credits and sustainable timber, with implementation already underway through a state-of-the-art nursery, early-stage genetic selection, and completed community consultations.
